Yesterday’s dress rehearsals went like a dream! Members of the public passing through Victoria Square last night got to see a sneak preview including a run through of the spectacular lighting, our dhol drummers giving it their all and of course our wonderful dancers in costume.

We have created a flickr set for you, so you can take a look at whats coming up in the three shows tonight and tomorrow.

We can’t wait to see you at one of the free performances, taking place outside Town Hall in Victoria Square on

30 minutes before each show our compere Bobby Friction and Bollywood Steps creator Simmy Gupta will teach you the dance moves so you can join in with wedding sequences!

Sunday was carnival day at Town Hall, with all sorts going on including Bollywood Steps workshops running throughout the day. Nutkhut dancer Yinka was on hand to teach the dance moves to audiences and we have to say…you all looked great! Good luck with the competition! Our friends at BRMB are helping us prepare for our big day, we just wanted to say thanks and can’t wait to see the BRMB team throw some Bollywood Steps dance moves.

This morning we received an email from nutkhut’s Ajay Chhabra from nutkhut detailing all the hard work going on behind the scenes ahead of the big weekend in 7 days time….

Simmy is in phase two of rehearsal mode, which is the last one before the company sets up in Birmingham. Phil Cheng our administrator has been ordering production consumables (things like gaffer tape, pyrotechnics) for delivery to Birmingham and our office, a far cry from the olden days, where we had endless hours of phone calls.

Kat (our costume person), has been buying trimmings and consumables for her department. Adam (our lighting man) has been undertaking last minute checks on the lighting order for both Bollywood Steps and Night Light.

Ruth (company manager), has been burning the broadband networks, talking to cast crew and Town Hall about travel, accommodation and schedules….

can’t wait to see you all in Brum

Bobby Friction - superstar DJ and Bollywood Steps compere, visited us yesterday to get some early practice in using the play and practice video. Along with Simmy, Bobby will be helping you to learn the dance moves before the performances on 9 & 10 October. Here’s his first ever attempt at the dance. You can’t deny it…the boy’s got rhythm!

Welcome to the online home of Bollywood Steps Birmingham, a major outdoor dance spectacular taking place in Victoria Sqaure, Birmingham on Friday 9 October and Saturday 10 October.

The three free shows are part of 175th anniversary celebrations of Town Hall Birmingham, a Grade I listed concert hall in the heart of the city, and are set to capture the imagination of over ten thousand people!

Introduced by DJ and broadcaster Bobby Friction, the performances will feature dazzling dance numbers, stunning architectural lighting, fireworks, colourful costumes, water effects and a cast of hundreds of local school children, youth dancers and dhol drummers.

We’re inviting you, your friends, family and colleagues to be part of each of the three shows, by learning a sequence of dances in advance of a magnificent wedding scene during the show were the entire audience can join in!

Twinkle-toed members of the public and Town Hall staff joined Olympic athlete Denise Lewis and Bollywood Steps choreographer Simmy Gupta at the launch in Birmingham last week to learn the moves. See their hilarious (and shocking) attempts.

Over 500 local school children are taking part in Bollywood Steps. West Midlands based professional dancers have learnt the moves and are teaching them in 18 Birmingham schools so that they can perform them on 9 & 10 October. 175 children will perform in the finale of each performance, one child representing each year Town Hall has been open. Thank you to the following schools for taking part, we can’t wait to see your amazing performances.

How To Add Your Video To Our Group

We want to make it as easy as possible for you to add your video to our group, so below are a set on instructions on how to this:

Go to YouTube.
Create an account if you don’t have one already, or sign in to your existing account.
Click the Upload button (on the right hand side of the screen).
Press Upload Video to select and upload your video.
Give your video a title, a description, add bollysteps as a tag and set privacy to share with the world.
Select save changes.
Once the upload is complete select My Videos.
Select play for you uploaded video and copy the URL in the address bar of your browser.
Go to our YouTube Group and press the Join Group button on the right.
Click on submit video and paste the URL you copied from step 8 and press Post. Your video will be added to our group shortly.
